During a 6 week internship you will gain experience, working on the boats with real customers assisting our team of PADI Instructors in the day to day operations of a busy PADI dive centre. You will learn what it takes be a professional scuba diver. You will hone your diving skills, perfect your Rescue Diving techniques and learn how to demonstrate skills to novice divers. You will assist on a wide variety of PADI courses and you will also learn how to guide dives on Grand Caymans beautiful dive sites. Becoming a PADI Divemaster is a great accomplishment and as you enter the ranks of leadership level diving you will feel proud of your achievement.

This Scuba Internship culminates with the PADI Instructor Development Course which is conducted by highly experienced PADI Platinum Course Director Ash McKnight. This is where you learn how to teach the PADI system of diver education. The purpose of the IDC is not only to prepare you to pass the Instructor Exams but also to prepare you for your new career in diving, this internship will prepare you well for this. As with all the courses at Go Pro Cayman, the classroom session are relaxed yet fun and informative. The Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program is one of two distinct components of PADI’s Instructor Development Course (IDC)—the core of PADI Instructor training. . It introduces you to the entire PADI System of diver education and concentrates on further developing your abilities as a professional dive educator.

The Instructor Development Course has a duration of 8 days.

Your professional instructors will be on hand and ready to help you through every step of the course, giving additional guidance as needed. You will also gain your Emergency First Response Instructor and your Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor ratings as well as your PADI Lionfish Tracker Instructor rating.

Once the IDC is complete you will then enter the PADI Instructor Exam. This is a 2 day evaluation by a member of PADI’s office staff held at Riviera Grand Cayman. At the IE you are evaluated in different areas; Classroom presentations, Confined Water Presentations, Open Water Presentations You will also need to show exemplary Rescue Demonstration Skills and also your ability to demonstrate 5 skills from the Open Water Diver Course. You will also sit 2 Exams in Theory and PADI Standards needing to achieve a passing score of 75% in each.

For Admittance you must be :

PADI Rescue diver or equlivalent certification
Certified diver for at least 5 months
18 years of age or older
Have a PADI Medical ( PADI medical form)signed by a physician within the last 12 months
Be a DAN member and hold DAN Insurance.
Have a proof of 40 logged dives. Should you have less than 40 dives, then one week arrival prior to the Divemaster course is recommended and there will be a minimum charge of 10us per shore dive until you get up to 40 or 60us per 2 tank boat dive, space available.

It is advisable to have your own dive equipment (new or used is fine) including:

BCD and regulator (with an alternate air source / octopus)
Dive computer
Knife/divers tool,
Inflatable surface marker, pocket mask and whistle

If you do not have your own Scuba diving equipment don’t worry, you can rent it from us for only $500US for the duration of your Internship
