This training course and assessment are under regulation x\11.1 covering the syllabus for x/6.1 "Boatmaster Grade 3" as outlined in the code of safety for small commercial vessels (Caribbean) and the syllabus for "General Purpose Hand" and "Boatman" as outlined in the transport Malta commercial vessel regulations, 2002 as amended showing compensence to:
Serve as a General Purpose Deckhand on Commercial Vessels 24 meters / 78 ft in length and Operate commercial vessels 12 meters / 39 ft in length 3 notical miles from safe haven, Daytime only
COURSE OUTLINE
This 3 day course covers two days of theory and one day of practical boat handling including:
· Safety at sea
· VHF Radio operations
· Small powerboats and rigid inflatable boats
· Launching and recovery
· Anchors and anchoring
· Nautical terminology
· Boat handling under power
· Man overboard procedures
· Ropes and rope-work
· Basic rules of the road (collision regulations)
· Glossary of terms
LIMITATIONS
· Covers vessels up to 12m
· Operation in coastal regions
· Driven by outboard or inboard motors
· In fair weather
· No horsepower limitations
· No accommodations
16 years of age or older
physically and mentally fit to operate a pleasure and in particular have sufficient powers of vision and hearing
successful at a written and practical examination and prove the necessary competence for pleasure craft operations.
